Save Pace and Space!

Pace and Space (paceandspacehoops.com) has been bringing you Smart NBA Talk for Smart NBA Fans since October 2015. I moved it to its own WordPress server in 2017 and got a two-year deal for a domain and hosting to bring you quality NBA statistics, highlights, and analysis.

During that time, the site has grown from hardly anyone reading at all to nearly 5,000 monthly pageviews—indeed, the site crossed the 50,000-view mark on the new server during the 2019 NBA Finals. Small potatoes, sure, but I've never run ads or monetized the site in any way; it's been free and fast-loading for my readers and I've used it as a demo tape.

Trouble is, I've been effectively out of work since July, when one of my freelance clients and the biggest source of my income stopped using contract work. I've been writing for HoopsHabit, but during the offseason traffic has been slow as people focus on other sports.

My hosting expires on October 17th. The domain lapses on the 27th.

And unless I can pull money together to either extend them with my current host (GoDaddy) or switch the site to hosting elsewhere, the site will at best be offline for awhile just as the season is starting and at worst will have to shut down.

Like I said, Pace and Space is free for all who read it. That will always be the case. I want this to be a place where, if I'm accountable to anyone, it's purely to my readers. You guys are who I do this for, and I'd love it if this could become a fully reader-supported site.

But mostly I just want to get into Year 3 on the new site and Year 5 overall without having to have that specter of losing all my hard work hanging over my head.

I've set the goal at $250, which will be enough to cover domain and hosting for another 2 years.

If you guys step up and we shatter this goal? I promise to find a way to put that money back into the business (well, most of it; I do admit, I'll buy a McRib or two.) Could be Pace and Space, could be the sister project I've tried to launch called Eating from the Trash Can, could be something entirely new from Mystery Ship Studios (like that NFL project I've been talking about since 2016 but never had the means to fund.)

Your generosity will make it possible. Help a writer out and I promise it'll be more than worth your while.
