Judicial Review Irish Water Monster Sewage Plant

An Bord Pleanala granted permission on the 11th of November 2019 for the Monster Sewage Plant in Clonshaugh and Regional Biosolids Storage Facility in Newtown Kilshane, pumping station in Abbotstown, and outfall pipe through Baldoyle Bay discharging off Irelands Eye into the Irish Sea, all as part of the Greater Dublin Drainage Project. We must now take a Judicial Review case to the High Court to overturn the decision made by An Bord Pleanala and we need to raise funds to get our statement of grounds into the court in just under 6 weeks. Funds raised will be withdrawn by this campaign oraganiser Sabrina Joyce-Kemper from North County Dublin, who will forward funds directly to our Solicitors client account. All funds will be used for legal costs for Judicial Review. Any unused funds will be distributed equally between four charities listed below.
UPDATE: Due to the size of the planning application and the technical nature of the appeal we now have two barristers onboard and are arranging for a number of scientific experts to provide evidence. Our case is evolving and we are adding to our legal grounds daily, this has increased our legal costs. The Clonshaugh Sewage Plant will release foul odours and Hazourdous particulate into the air around the plant which will impact on the health of the communities beside the plant and the Blanchardstown storage tanks. The Board also failed to apply the provisions of the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive correctly. As a result, Ireland's two largest sewage treatment plants in Ireland covering half the population will be discharging into a 20km stretch of the Irish sea which is a UNESCO Biosphere and a Special Area of Conservation to protect Harbour Porpoise. It also will impact Irelands Eye SAC which has protected reefs and also is the main breeding ground for Seals in Dublin Bay and the Irish Sea. The area adjacent to the sewage discharge outfall is also commercial shellfish waters and a Public Bathing area. Environmental legislation cannot be applied arbitrarily by Bord Pleanla who is Ireland's Competent Authority for Planning developments. The size of the Plant is unsustainable and will only double Dublin Bay's pollution issues not relieve it. We believe that Kildare Meath and Northern Dublin areas should have their own smaller plants to prevent the "all eggs in one basket" scenario which was an issue in the failure of the Leixlip water treatment plant which caused boil notices for 600,000 people. We also believe that the smaller plants should embrace a move towards at least partial constructed wetlands to treat sewage, thus providing a natural solution that also creates ecosystems. Irish Water already does this in Dunhill, Waterford, with great success and in Germany, many of the Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plants are introducing constructed wetlands in their design. We want Ireland to be innovators in sustainable wastewater treatment. In conjunction with Solution Not Pollution, we want to prevent this hazardous project going ahead and work towards replacing it with a number of smaller green technology plants that the Irish people can be proud of and have confidence in.
We will absolutely be able to overturn this decision as we have a number of compelling legal arguments to bring to the High Court. Please support our judicial review and be a Guardian of our Coastal Natural resources and protect the Irish Sea and the communities who will be greatly affected by the project.

- St Frances Hospice- Blanchardstown (must keep all hospice windows closed for all months that extremely loud and dusty GDDP construction will happen, even in summer)
-St. Michaels House - will be subject to Odours from the plant and a massive increase in traffic and dust.
-Irish Seal Sanctuary & Seal Rescue Ireland - Seals will be impacted By GDDP.
-Irish Whale and Dolphin society - Harbour porpoise, Dolphins and Whales will be impacted by GDDP.
