Save our Habitat for Humanity House

Donation protected

On September 6, 2018, our father passed away from a stroke at age 50, leaving behind our mother, two grandmothers, and twelve kids. Our father was kind, giving, humble, and hard working. For the last 15 years he worked at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Denver as a housekeeper putting in long hours.  He was the sole breadwinner of our family.  He was always helping us kids by  supporting our education and getting us what we needed for school.

14 years ago we left a refugee camp in Kenya to resettle in America, since then we have lived in low-income housing in neighborhoods that felt temporary and unsafe.

A year ago, our family started looking for other housing options because our father wanted to find a way to give the family a home that was safe and sustainable for our future. We registered for a Habitat for Humanity Home, went through an interview process, and were found to meet the requirements for one of their homes.

In order to be awarded the home, our mother and father each did 200 volunteer hours to help build the house. They also took finance classes and volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore shop.

After a full year of volunteering and hardwork, a brand new five-bedroom house was ready for us to move into! I remember the day my dad and mom picked up the keys to the new house.  I had never seen my dad so happy.  I remember him saying that he had achieved an important part of the American dream - providing our family with a home in safe neighborhood that would last a lifetime.

This new home was a fresh start for the family.  We celebrated by having our family and close friends come to visit.  We made the house our home.  Tragedy struck a month after we moved in when my dad had a sudden massive stroke and died suddenly leaving us all in shock and grief.

As we have struggled with the loss of our father we are now trying to figure out how to stay in the house that was our father's dream. We are asking for donations to help us pay our mortgage for the next year while we get back on our feet and cope with the loss of our father.

We want to thank you for any amount of support you can give to help us save our house.
