This is a rare opportunity for you to help bring a little dinosaur back to life! OK, we’re not talking Jurassic Park here, but your donation will help palaeontologists conduct their research and understand what this rare fossil is all about. This is your chance to show your support for palaeontology! It’s also your chance to help secure the future of this unique piece of Australia’s natural heritage.
The Fossil
Miners at Lightning Ridge in New South Wales found this fossil while digging for opals. The whole fossil is made of opal, some of it is amazing and beautiful precious opal. The fossil is a small dinosaur that lived in a forested coastal plain 100 million years ago. That’s about as much as we know about it at the moment, it has yet to be cleaned and studied – and that’s where you come in.
The Project
Palaeo Pictures has secured this rare and valuable specimen for eventual donation to the Australian Opal Centre for display and care in perpetuity.

But securing the specimen is only the first step in saving it.
The specimen now needs to be cleaned and reassembled. This is a skilled and slow process that requires funding. Your donation will contribute to the preparation of this little dinosaur.
The prepared specimen needs to be studied to learn more about what this dinosaur was all about. It may well be an entirely new species! These studies require funding. Your donation will contribute to the study of this little dinosaur.
Palaeo Pictures are making a documentary about this opalised dinosaur and other amazing opalised fossils unique to Australia. As a bonus and in recognition of your support, your name will be added to the end credits of the documentary!

The Ask
The sum of money we are hoping to raise through this GoFundMe campaign will cover the preparation and study this dinosaur. However, we are hoping to exceed this target with all funds going toward similar projects that we have in the pipeline. There are many other fossil specimens that Palaeo Pictures are following that require preparation and study.
