Save Our Community Box Mountain Watershed

I am Barbara Whyte, Director of Protectors of Box Mountain Watershed (PBMW). Our organization was created to protect our water supply coming from this beautiful mountain. Over 350 adults plus children in our community depend on this watershed for their drinking water and for domestic uses. We were devastated to find out that our watershed is going to be logged under the title of Wildfire Risk Reduction Plan. This is a commercial logging project as there is already 2 firebreaks between our mountain and the Village of Nakusp. Wildfire Risk Reduction Plans do not involve commercial logging. We expect the logging to start this summer. We are raising monies for the following purposes: hiring a lawyer, doing a Hydrogeology assessment at approximately $6500.00, hire a Wildfire Risk Reduction Consultant, and covering any costs for advertising our purposes. We are also looking into how we can get our watershed permanently protected like they have for Vancouver and Victoria Areas. We feel we should have the same rights as people on the BC Coast for water protection. We stand in gratitude and really appreciate your support for our cause.
