Help Save The Bataan Community Center in the West Dallas La Bajada Neighborhood!

The Bataan Center is the Heart of the La Bajada West Dallas Neighborhood

The La Bajada Neighborhood Community Association and Beyond Baseball Youth Association are writing to ask for your support in Saving The Bataan Center from being sold and falling prey of more gentrification in our La Bajada Neighborhood.

The Bataan Center has been the Heart of the La Bajada Neighborhood for over 75 years.  Not only, La Bajada residences but all of  West Dallas residents want to preserve the history and original intentions and purposes of the Bataan Center.

Built in the late 1930’s, The Bataan Center was established during the Great Depression and originally known as West Dallas Social Center, providing medical supplies, food, and clothing. Services extended to include family recreation and help for the public school system.  The Bataan Center continues to serve the families of West Dallas in many social community roles operated by Beyond Baseball as a true community partner.

Quote from a lawsuit filed in 2016 by Trinity Point LLC against West Dallas Community Centers, Inc., Lucious Williams, Karen Factory Salmond, Quintin Salmond and Stacy Marshall.
"Over the course of the past fifteen years, through what appears to be poor management, self-serving leadership, self-dealing, lack of transparency, fiscal and Board malfeasance as well as repeated violations of the bylaws, the assets of West Dallas Community Center have been systematically liquidated, taken or misspent, in violation of the articles of incorporation and charter."

West Dallas Community Centers Inc., recently transferred the property to the Lucious Williams foundation and according to MLS listings, the Lucious Williams Foundation and its agent Quintin Salmond are listing the building and its 4.5 acres on 3201 Herbert Street for $11.5 million dollars.

A donation from large to small will assist with the attorney and monthly rental expenses.
