Save my hair during chemotherapy

Donation protected
My name is Roxanne Korner I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, on July 7, 2015. I was admitted to the hospital for many months receiving chemotherapy, which caused my hair to start falling out. I was extremely sad to lose my hair; no girl ever wants their hair to fall out. That was the first time I lost my hair, and it wouldn’t be the last.

After 10 months of intense treatment I entered maintenance phase, which is a lesser form of chemotherapy. My hair grew back very quickly after and my life was getting back to a more normal state. I started my freshman year of high school, my hair was growing in very quickly and I felt happy. But I couldn’t finish my freshman year because unfortunately I relapsed and my cancer was back. I immediately had a port placed again and started an even more intense treatment. I lost my hair again, I was devastated.

The treatment was a lot harder for me to take the second time around because it was much more intense than the first time. My counts were dangerously low for extended periods and bad things happened – battling several infections simultaneously without having an immune system is hard (pneumonia, a septic shock, and other life-threatening issues). I got thru all this and my hair started growing in again. It made me happy.

I have started treatment again and now my hair is starting to fall out once again. I’m tired of losing all my hair, yet another time. I found out about Penguin caps, which have a very high success rate in preventing hair loss during chemotherapy. A penguin cap is used in cold cap therapy. It is a drug free non-invasive technique of scalp cooling. It has proven to be successful in minimizing hair loss, to reduce swelling, can relieve migraines or headaches, and other trichology conditions. Using a penguin cap would be fantastic and would help me not lose my hair.

My hair loss is slow but it will accelerate in my experience. I will only have a chance of saving it if I start using the cap very soon, immediately will be ideal. Unfortunately, no health insurance accessible to us pays for the cost of renting a Penguin cap. They are $495 per month. I was hoping to get help to pay for this, which is why I created this page here. https://penguincoldcaps.com/

It would mean so much to be able to keep my hair this time. I would be grateful for any donations. Thank you in advance!
