<div>My name is Majd, a Palestinian from Gaza. I live with my small family under conditions no human being should ever endure. Our life is no longer normal; it has become a daily struggle for survival. We have escaped death countless times, surviving bombardments, displacement, and hunger. For long periods, our only shelter was a tent, which could not protect our children from the cold, the rain, or the constant terror of drones and bombs overhead.

<div>I myself have been injured multiple times during the war, wounds that alone tell the tragedy of my family. One night, while I was asleep, our neighbour’s house next door was bombed. Dozens were killed instantly, and flying shrapnel struck my hands and legs, while our home suffered major damage and parts of it collapsed.

<div>I also had a dog named Lucy, my loyal companion, who was tragically killed in the bombing.

<div>She was more than just a pet; she was a part of our family and a source of joy and comfort during these unbearable times. I loved her deeply, and losing her felt like losing another piece of our already shattered home.

<div>On another occasion, while working at a small kiosk near a women’s activity center in Al-Nuseirat market, a piece of shrapnel struck my head. It almost killed me instantly.

<div>But the injury left me with severe complications: frequent seizures and uncontrolled electrical surges in parts of my body. The doctors in Gaza cannot find a cure, and the medications I take bring little relief.

<div>Therefore, I am compelled to travel to neighbouring countries for an accurate diagnosis of my condition and to continue my treatment. This requires additional travel costs, with the minimum amount being $5,000, which is what Hala Company requires to coordinate travellers with the Rafah border officers and ensure a fast and urgent exit, especially for travellers with urgent and serious conditions like mine.

<div>I am not the only one who has suffered. My brother was shot in the legs by a quadcopter drone while we were fleeing, simply for trying to protect his family. My father suffers from diabetes, my mother from high blood pressure, and their medications have become unbearably expensive, often beyond our reach.

<div>My sister’s life was shattered when her husband suffered a devastating spinal injury that left him paralyzed and unable to provide for his family. Now we must also care for her and her children, on top of our own overwhelming struggles.
</div>

<div>Since our elderly parents could no longer endure living in tents, we were forced to rent a room in a modest house from a relative for $300 per month, a heavy burden we cannot afford, adding poverty upon poverty and suffering upon suffering.
</div>

<div>This is life in Gaza: where death lurks at every moment, where entire families are buried under rubble, where children go to bed hungry, and mothers hide their tears to keep hope alive in their children’s eyes. We are not numbers flashing on a screen. We are human beings, with the same dreams as anyone else: a safe home, bread on the table, medicine for the sick, and a childhood that is not stolen before it begins.
