HELP SAVE LUCKY DOG

Community is everything.  It is where we engage with our neighbors, our local delivery guys and gals, where we raise our children, and where we support and look out for each other, keeping our community safe and thriving.  It’s where we call home.

In these unprecedented times, the landscape of our local communities is being altered and the threads that hold us together as a community are being challenged.  What our current community looks like, might not at all reflect what it will look like once we come out on the other side of this global pandemic.  What happens when small businesses such as local restaurants and bars, the very axis’ of our community cannot weather this storm? How do you define home, when the unique markers of your “own community” are just ….. gone?

Lucky Dog  is a small business located in Beverly, MA owned by Russell Sundberg and Matthew Willis.  Russell started bartending at the Lucky Dog in 2009. In 2015, stemming from a dream of small business ownership coupled with a love of community, Matt and Russell bought Lucky Dog - the dynamic duo was born. Within the first couple of years in operation, Lucky Dog grew in popularity, becoming a central hub for locals (and out-of-towners who fancy a well-made cocktail) to gather, share laughs, stories, and be with their family and friends….and to make an occasional new one. With its first-class friendly service, Lucky Dog earned its moniker, "5-star Dive Bar" with the locals.

Sadly, Lucky Dog was forced to close its doors to the public following state mandates in mid-March following the COVID-19 pandemic. (maybe you have heard of it?)  Following its close, the owners of Lucky Dog made the difficult decision to lay off their staff as well; the uncertainty of income without being able to serve and service their community.

Russell's wife, Kelly, who also works in hospitality, was indefinitely furloughed from her job the week after Lucky Dog closed its doors. Additionally, Matt's wife Jackie, a local bartender, has been stripped of her earning potential as well due to the pandemic.

Lucky Dog is a small business of the people and for their community in Beverly.  Co-workers, owners and patrons ARE the community at large.  Lucky Dog has taken care of its community since opening its doors.  It's time for us to join together and take care of them.  They have been there for us, our loved ones.  When we need someone to talk to, maybe to lessen the stress of a hard day, or even celebrate milestones in our own families.  This is our time to return that favor, supporting them in their time of need. They’ve rallied around us, and now it's time to do the same in return.

We are hoping to help support Lucky Dog by raising the funds they need to keep their business for the next two months, April and May.  Any additional profits raised beyond our goal, would be used to help support their staff, who are also without pay.  That’s what Lucky Dog is about, supporting others.

Whatever amount, large or small - 50 cents, five dollars, or a large donation from the Gates Foundation (anyone have connections?) Every little bit counts. Your contributions, like our community….matter.

Please help Lucky Dog  - for us, for our community, we need them.

From us to you in safety and health,
