Save lost souls from 'KILL' shelter

Donation protected
For many years Charney Pet Care Centre has been involved with the care and rehoming of rescue dogs here in the UK.

Recently we have been moved by the extreme suffering that many hundreds of Romanian stray dogs are subjected to both on the streets and in the terrible conditions of the overcrowded public shelters. Many of these public shelters are known as 'kill shelters' as the dogs have only 14 days before they are destroyed. Conditions in the shelters are appalling and many of the dogs arrive injured due to attacks by people when living on the streets, or through brutal methods of capture by dog catchers in Romania.

Since March 2018 we have rescued 20 dogs from Lancram and Breasta public shelters. All of these poor souls were on the verge of being put too sleep.

Our mission is to provide these dogs with a safe and loving environment giving them an opportunity to recuperate from their experiences in Romania and from the long journey to the UK.

Rescuing dogs from such an environment is by no means easy. Many of the dogs we have rescued have adapted to their new lives quickly, they are happy to be handled by us and have responded well to basic training. Some of the dogs however have been so cruelly treated or have spent their entire lives on the streets of Romania and they fear human beings and everything in their world.

We have successfully homed 10 of our rescue dogs who are all thriving in their new families. We currently have 5 dogs that are in the process of rehabilitation. Their names are Barney, Poppy, Etta, Blu and Amigo. They were so terrified and traumatised when they arrived it has taken many months to gain their trust. They have improved so much in the time they have been with us, they will now take food from the hand, receive gentle fuss and happily follow us around the fields for walks and come when called. We are working on getting them to accept a collar, lead and harness and we are hoping they will be able to find their own forever homes in 2019.

We follow a rehoming process where all potential homes are thoroughly vetted to make sure we pair the right dog to the right person, making the transition as smooth as possible. We offer pre and post adoption advice and full rescue back up if the adoption is not successful.

We want to keep helping these dogs and to continue to do so we need financial support. We currently use the money we collect in adoption fees and our own fundraising to maintain the rescue service. Our running costs include food for the dogs, wormers, vaccinations, veterinary care when needed, supplies such as bedding, cleaning products etc. We are also renovating an area previously used to house our rescue dogs that provides our current rescues with a comfortable space away from the main business.

We greatly appreciate your support, any donation is gratefully received and will be used to help these lost souls find their way. xx
