UPDATE: Loki is out of surgery, and he is coming home today. My husband is on his way back with Susan and Loki from Reno now. He will be on a special diet for some time, but it looks like he will make it! The big thing is now paying down the vet bills. I have an estimate from yesterday that is right over 8k, and I’m unsure just yet if that’s the final total including his overnight stay last night and any care from this morning. I’m happy to provide the estimate for anyone who would like to see it.
We are simply grateful Loki is alive, and able to spend his days taking care of Susan. The vet bill for this trip is absolutely crippling though, Susan didn’t have the funds that were needed in the first place and must replenish the monies she has paid to their sources. Thanks for following Loki’s journey so far, and I will update again soon.
UPDATE: Loki is going into surgery, as they found something (they are unsure of what it is) likely causing a blockage. We are nearing 8k as the bill, and it will need to be paid after services are rendered.
Update: Susan needed to pay another TWO THOUSAND dollars this morning for the overnight stay, imaging and evaluation this morning. She desperately needs to raise funds for the only treatment available to him to save his life, which at a minimum (without stays, and bringing him to Reno and back daily) is $300 a treatment, he will need at least 3 doses. I will update as we know more.
My good friend Susan Gillespie Skidmore has a service-in-training dog, a Heeler named Loki. She is disabled and on a very fixed income. Loki got sick yesterday, and was taken to the emergency vet today in Reno, NV about 1.5 hours from Susan’s home. He has acute pancreatitis as well as some liver damage, and requires immediate and intensive intervention.
The emergency evaluation, labs and imaging already came to about $2500, and he is staying overnight. He needs more imaging, as well as a new treatment for the issues that is given over the course of 3 days, and is $300 a dose. The overnight stay he needs tonight, and quite possibly the next two nights (unless they allow us to bring him home with a port left in him, and we can drive Susan and him to and from Reno each day, OR we can see if the local vet can administer the medication, but we will still have to pay for the dosages at whatever cost they will be there) will be extremely costly, and entirely out of the budget for Susan, including emergency funds.
Loki is a spunky little dog, and is very dear to Susan. He provides invaluable service and companionship to her, and has a lot of life left to give.
I appreciate the time anyone took reading this, and please consider donating to help save Loki.
Loki is currently at Animal Emergency and Specialty in Reno, NV and their number is [phone redacted] if you’d like to donate directly to them.
Susan can be contacted on Facebook or I can give her cell if anyone would like to arrange donations through her.
Happy Holidays, and stay warm everyone!
