I am an animal lover and was driving on 13th Street near Hillside in Wichita, KS on Monday, October 24, 2016, when I was horrified to witness a vehicle hit and run over this little female black poodle mix (pictured above). The vehicle inhumanely continued without stopping but thankfully several other good samaritans, who also witnessed the incident, helped get her out of the street and into a pet carrier I keep in my car. Pet Haven Veterinary Clinic agreed to see her right away so I immediately drove her there.
She was put on fluids (to help with shock) and given pain meds right away, and is currently stable and staying at Pet Haven. However, X-rays show her pelvis is fractured so she does need surgery. She is being transferred to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita Wednesday morning (Oct. 26) to await surgery.
This little pup, now named Peli (because of her broken pelvis lol) is just as cute and sweet as she can be, and is being so good for everyone in spite of her injuries! She is around 10 lbs. and the vet says she is only about 1 year old. All funds raised will be used to pay for her veterinary care. Funds would be appreciated as soon as possible to expedite her surgery.
When I saw this little dog running back and forth across 13th Street I pulled onto the first side street to try to see if she had tags but she darted by before I could get out of my car. Another kind man and woman saw her and also pulled onto a side street to try to help catch her, but she ran out into traffic on 13th Street again where a tan/gold and white vehicle obviously saw her (because the driver slowed down some) but struck her despite and then cruelly drove off despite the loud cries from the little dog, the sickening thud as their left front tire hit and ran over her, my terrified scream from the sidewalk, plus the kind man and I both running towards the street immediately after.
I am just a good samaritan who hates to see any creature hurt. It breaks my heart and frustrates and angers me to no end when people do not take care of their pets/companion animals/furry family members. If I could help them all I would, but I can't do it alone. Please, I'm imploring everyone to help make a difference for this one innocent lil pup. Every single dollar will help bring us closer to our goal so please donate what you can; I am very aware money is tight for everyone these days. Also, please help spread the word by telling all your friends and contacts and posting on social media! The more people who know, the more likely we will reach our goal and help heal this adorable little pup!
