Save Layla Consuela

Meet Layla Conseula Banana Hammock Weeble Wobble. She was surrendered to me by a loving family who could no longer take care of her. When I first met Layla, she was checked out because she would not use her legs and she was unable to go to the bathroom on her own. Physically she looked like she had given up, but something in her eyes made me believe different. All I could do at the time was whisper to her "this is not the end for you, we will figure this out". I felt this in my heart because I already have a handi-cat at home who can't use his back legs but thrives every day. Once she was in my care, I was able to get more testing done because of my line of work. Blood tests, fecal tests (besides Giardia positive), radiographs, all came back normal/negative. Unfortunately after her MRI, this confirmed that she has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). This viral infection is killing her by causing inflammation around the vessels in her tissue which affects her primary organs including her brain. She is only 13 months old and I am devastated. I knew that taking her in would be a challenge, but I did not expect to hit a dead end so quickly. Working with animals everyday makes me feel like I owe it to them to do everything in my power to help. I cannot just sit here and do the minimum supportive care. Currently she is on a steroid to reduce the inflammation around her brain. This is allowing her to be slightly mobile. She is still very unsteady, more lethargic, slowing down, and her spirits are diminishing. She even needs me to stimulate her to go to the bathroom. It is not safe for her to be on this steroid indefinitely. FIP is fatal, and if she does not get this medicine, I would have done all of this for nothing. There is only one medicine she needs, GS-441542. Every vial is only 5ml and can range from $80-$115 each for an 84-day treatment at minimum. Each bottle would last her two days, so this could amount to approximately $4830 just in medicine alone. I will also need to keep her up on fluid therapy and probiotic care until our fight is over. Layla needs to start this treatment immediately or she will not make it. Survivors that have undergone this treatment have had amazing results and were able to walk straight and act like their normal selves again. This is a CURE. When you take responsibility for a life, you do everything you can. I always say, expect the unexpected and do what needs to be done. I do not want to lose her. She is so amazing and bright eyed.. She can beat this. I know it, but I need help. Those who know me well, know I am not one to ask for help. I typically like to be the one helping others, but now I am begging. If I myself, or anything I have ever done has inspired you, please donate. Any little bit helps, and it will be greatly appreciated. Please share for me and help give Layla a chance to live a happy healthy life.
