Help Save Lady – A Veteran’s Support Dog in Critical Condition
Hello, my name is Pelham D., and I’m a disabled U.S. Army veteran reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help. My emotional support dog, Lady, a loyal and loving German Rottweiler, is now fighting for her life after a devastating and senseless tragedy.
A few days ago, due to a simple mistake—I forgot to double-check my gate—Lady got out. Moments later, I heard a commotion. When I realized she was gone, I ran outside and found her bleeding in the street, surrounded by bystanders. It was horrific—there was blood everywhere.
I rushed her to an emergency vet hospital, believing she’d been hit by a car. But then the Sheriff’s Office called with news I could never have imagined: Lady had been shot multiple times by someone walking their dog, who claimed she was being aggressive.
However, I was later contacted by the Sheriff’s Office and told the unimaginable: Lady had been shot multiple times by someone claiming she was acting aggressively. The bullets are still lodged in her skull. She has had to have an emergency CT (in depth look at her skull to see where the 2 bullets are still located) and an emergency scope to see if they could get the bullet fragments out without going to surgery. Unfortunately the bullets and fragments are in places that is dangerous to try to take out, even with surgery, they can't be taken out. She is now in critical care at Sugar Land 24-Hour Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care, where she has been since Monday. With all the emergency and critical care medicine she is receiving, the bill is adding up fast. The invoice as of now is around $21,000.
Why Lady Means Everything
Lady isn’t just a dog—she’s my lifeline.
I suffer from severe PTSD, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Lady was gifted to me by my brother before he returned to military service. She is my emotional anchor—bringing calm during panic attacks and comfort during the darkest moments. I truly don’t know how I’ll survive without her.
I’m currently on FMLA medical leave from my job at Amazon due to service-connected disabilities. Financially, I’m stretched beyond my limits. But I am not asking for donations sent to me. That’s why I’m asking—humbly and urgently—for your help.
