Alina, aka Big Al, opened K-HOUSE in 2014 - the first karaoke lounge in Ithaca!
When the COVID lockdowns began, K-HOUSE had to close down because of New York State's restrictions. During the pandemic, she hosted drive-in parking lot dance parties, offered delicious takeout food and launched the At-Home Xtreme Spicy Ramen Challenge, held karaoke sessions at the Wegmans parking lot, and planned other activities to keep the community in Ithaca safe and entertained.
She is selling Soju Care Packages and home karaoke kits at affordable bundle prices to try to keep the business afloat. At the same time, Alina has even donated some packages to healthcare and essential workers. She'll soon have an online store for easy ordering of these items plus gift cards, as well as the opportunity to pay for a care package to be donated. In the meantime, gift cards are available online for those who'd like to share the K-HOUSE love with a friend.
However, Alina is struggling to pay monthly utility costs, including the phone bill that keeps the fire alarm system running. She is trying her best to keep her business going so she'll be able to reopen when pandemic restrictions are eased and she's allowed to operate.
For many students and other community members, singing their hearts out at K-HOUSE has been like therapy, and we hope before too much longer, it will be again! If she can wait out the shutdown.
