Update on Kestin. To all of Kerstins family Friends fellow cat breeders and cat lovers. It is with a heavy heart that I advise Kerstin lost her battle yesterday afternoon and passed away peaceful with her family and friends around her. I only hope she went knowing her beloved cats were in good hands. We will be working together to find homes for all of her cats all assistance financially or otherwise in this endeavour will be greatly appreciated. If you are a cat owner and my know someone that would be interested in helping to get any of Kerstin's cats into a nice home please get in touch with us. We have over 50 cats to Vaccinate, Micro chip, desex and rehome as you can imagine this is a huge task and any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Kerstin started her love of Abys with her first silver girl Minka around 2002. Since then she has been growing and expanding her line to include silver cinnamons, fawns, blues and black silvers. She was a regular at shows for many years including becoming a companion judge. Sadly due to personal reasons Kerstin stepped away from judging and showing her cats about 4 years ago. 10 days before Christmas Kerstin had a fairly routine but major operation and came home in really high spirits. Her first priority was her cats making sure they were all cared for and doing well. Unfortunately within a few days of being home Kerstin suffered a life threatening surgery complication  and had developed a severe internal infection. She has been hospitalised since the 20th December 2017. Kerstin has now undergone 4 life saving surgeries, is on a ventilator and kidney dialysis, and currently in an induced coma in the ICU. She is in a stable but critical condition and we are unsure when she will be well enough to be woken up. If Kerstin can overcome the infection and all complications she will still have an extremely long road to recovery.  The Doctors estimate her recovery will include at least 2 months hospitalisation. Kerstin works at the Queensland Herbarium as a Senior Botanist and her manager and wonderful work colleagues have shown such care and amazing support by helping to maintain her home and care for all the cats and kittens while other arrangements were being made. Kerstin has also had a lot of well wishes, prayers and of course much needed help and support from family, close friends, fellow breeders, QFA and neighbours. So many people have been touched by Kerstin over the years and it is truly wonderful to see everyone coming together now to support Kerstin when she needs it most. Kerstin has dedicated her life to her cats and they are what keeps her going and brings her the most joy. Thanks to the generosity of a number of QFA breeders we have managed to foster out the majority of Kerstin’s cats and kittens. This has been an enormous help to her family who have been living in Kerstin's home. It has also been a great relief to know we have been able to maintain Kerstin’s current breeding line until more info is available on her long term prognosis. We are currently unable to access any of Kerstin’s finances so are all contributing where we can to ensure the cats are cared for. The longer Kerstin is unconscious the harder it is for those closest to her to keep up this high level of support. We know it is a tough time of year but need to put out a call for help. We are looking for any donations of money, cat/kitten food, litter or vet care. Everything received will be shared amongst everyone who has taken on care of Kerstin’s cats to help ease the burden. We really appreciate anything you can spare during this time of need.
