CAMPAIGN CLOSED: Save Kansas City’s Hidden River

Tax deductible
Kansas City’s Blue River connects us to recreation, beauty and nature, but if we don’t act now it will be lost forever. We need your help to finish a documentary film about this city treasure that will inspire more people to get involved, saving the river for generations to come.

The Blue River and the creeks and streams that feed it are under threat from development, pollution and not enough access. The Blue River, Indian Creek, and Brush Creek are part of the fabric of who we are, but we are losing the stories and the river is becoming forgotten.

The Blue River, English Landing Films

The Blue River flows 40 miles from Overland Park in Kansas through the KC Zoo and flows into the Missouri River just east of downtown in Missouri. It travels through suburban neighborhoods, agricultural land, urban communities, industrial areas, brownfields, wetlands, and forests. The river is a regional asset with great potential, but it is currently threatened by pollution from stormwater runoff, loss of habitat, urbanization, and illegal dumping. People do not typically see the Blue River as a destination for respite and recreation. Once people know about this beautiful place, they will start to consider how to care for it. They will envision a Blue River that is known as an integral part of our history and our community, providing a sense of place, supporting a healthy environment, and connecting us to nature.

The Blue River, English Landing Films

The Blue River Documentary Film will feature oral histories and the ecological and cultural history of the river and be a part of the Renew the Blue campaign . Local renowned filmmaker, Michael Price, English Landing Films  , is capturing the beauty and the challenges of the river in all seasons. He is best known for his films seen on KCPT Evicted and A City Divided. Through this campaign and film, we aspire to bring attention to the river, its needs, and the many organizations working to improve it. Together we will promote positive outdoor experiences, remind people of the river’s proud past, inspire them about its future, and promote sustainable development.

We’ve had some very generous donors and supporters throughout the creation of this film, including KCPT, The Nature Conservancy and The US Environmental Protection Agency. But now we need YOU to help us get to the finish line! If clean water, healthy communities, beautiful natural spaces and conservation are important causes to you, please consider making a donation today!

Here is what we need:

$5,000 to finish filming and editing
$5,000 to host eight screening events in the community in 2019 and 2020

Here is our timeline:

    Film Completion: August 1, 2019
    Film Premiere: September of 2019
