Our friend JoJo was recently taken to the hospital for emergency surgery on her colon because of an intussusception. This is normally found in the very young or the very old so it was troubling when found in a healthy 30 year old woman. A CT scan was performed to confirm the condition and also showed a mass in her intestine. After they performed emergency surgery to remove half of her colon and a laparoscopy to remove the mass, the pathology report came back with the word that no one wants to hear: cancer.
JoJo's official diagnosis is Stage 3B Colon Cancer and unfortunately this is not her first time with cancer. She fought Stage 2 Thyroid in 2014 and with radiation treatment in NYC went into remission in 2015. Luckily her previous bought with cancer does not have to do with her current fight, however, she is still paying off the bills from her previous treatment and will have additional expenses for her current treatment. She will have to go through 4 rounds of chemo to make sure she can rid herself of the cancer.
If you know JoJo at all, you know she is an independent, hard worker and is very active and lives a healthy lifestyle. She is an amazing, kind, and strong women who is not one to ask help and actually is usually giving the help, but unfortunately because of medical expenses she is asking for help in her time of need. Her previous treatment was not fully covered by insurance and she still has over $100,000 left in payments and with her current treatment she is looking close to $20,000 in additional out of pocket expenses.
JoJo is looking for funds to at least cover her current out of pocket expenses for her current treatment and the timing could not be more urgent. JoJo started her treatment Wednesday October 10 and has already had to purchase her first round of pills and has to pay for each IV infusion. During this time, she is on disability and will not be able to collect her full paycheck either. The longer she waits the more the medical bills will add up.
