Save Italia Conti Junior School!

The Italia Conti Academy has been preparing talented young people for entry to the entertainment industry since 1911.

The Junior school was founded by Italia Conti to give Children from all backgrounds a chance to follow a carefully constructed academic curriculum to ensure they graduate with qualifications and have the widest possible range of choice available to them at sixteen whilst also giving them an opportunity to engage with a range of performance skills which prepares them for further training at a higher level, eventually leading onto a career in the performing arts and entertainment industry.

On the 1st of May 2020 an announcement was made that due to the COVID-19 pandemic leaving some parents unable to pay their fees during the Government extended lockdown, the Junior school would have to close its doors in July 2021. The Building which the school occupies needs to also be vacated and a new one needs to be purchased for the school to be able to continue long term. The school had an investor lined up to purchase the new building however due to the Pandemic they have pulled out. Adding to the financial situation some Students were unable to pay fees due to the current economic climate caused by the Pandemic, it has meant that student numbers have fallen dramatically and the school predicts that recovery from this will take some time. This means that the school will not be able to continue saving enough money in time to purchase a new building and to also keep the school afloat for the next year for the current Children who attend, it can not do both. Italia Conti offers the largest amount of scholarships, more than any other Independent School in the country and it is not a school for just children from privileged back grounds. Parents who also pay full fees make huge sacrifices to be able to afford to be able to give their children the opportunity to train at the prestigious school.

Some families who's children are currently receiving non transferable scholarships can not afford to send them to alternative fee paying performing arts schools. It was for this reason that Italia Conti set up the school so that no matter what social economic background a child came from, they would be able to have the same opportunities.

Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards the purchase of a new building to secure the Schools future for many years to come so that it can continue to give the same opportunities to all of the talented children from all walks of life. If the fundraiser is not successful then any money raised will be donated to the current Students on scholarships and any Parent who is in genuine financial difficulty, to pay their fees in full, at another performing arts school, or to be used to enable them to continue the high level of performing arts training to give them the same opportunities. Any excess funds will be donated to The Southwark Playhouse Charity who also provide Children and young Adults from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with free part time performing arts training, we feel that this is a charity which Italia Conte would have whole heartedly supported.

The children who currently attend the school are all completely devastated at the news! The Students currently in year 9 are due to begin their GCSE's in September 2020. This means that they would have to try to find alternate education in just a few short months when all schools are currently closed to the pandemic, or risk disruption at a crucial time in their education. This could have a severe impact on the rest of their education and their futures.

The School has a huge Alumni, many of whom are very well established within the Performing Arts, TV and Film industry. Help us to keep this list growing for our generation of children and for many more generations to come! EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO BE GIVEN THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES - KEEP ITALIA CONTI'S FOUNDATION ALIVE!
