Save Indian Trans ALLINDIA Lives – COVID

Save Indian Trans Lives: COVID Relief

SITAL (Save Indian Trans AllINDIA Lives) is focused on Indian trans, hijra, intersex, third gender, and non-binary communities facing unprecedented neglect, isolation, infection, and starvation due to the ongoing covid-19 second wave. It is a pan-India effort working vigorously to support over 50+ communities/birdaris across 20 states to begin with. We have raised close to $110K USD, which is about 30% of our total need. Rachana Mudraboyina is the CHAIR of SITAL overseeing efforts on the ground in India. Our grassroots effort continues with distributing food and health kits and is now scaling swiftly to mobilize emergency medications, PPE and essentials as networks are activated for emergency housing, hospitalization, rent relief and accessing vaccines. Thus far, we have reached hundreds of community members across 16 states including West Bengal, UP, Nagaland, Kashmir, Jharkhand, Assam, Andhra etc. and distributed over 6000 such kits which cost about $13-$17 and last 2 folx for about 10 days. SITAL is a strategic initiative that really calls for your attention to include Trans Hijra Kinnar lives of India in every health effort including vaccine access, every community conversation, every rebuilding and reopening effort.

SITAL is a pan India Trans Hijra Intersex Third Gender Nonbinary relief effort to support and save Trans lives. ParivarBayArea , based in US, has begun this initiative in partnership with over 25+ registered CBOs across India, focussed to help over 10000 communities across 44 districts across 13 states. Our food and health kit drives are initiated all over India, and completed with CBOs in Karnataka, Kashmir, Nagaland, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh for the first round of relief kits.

This wave of COVID has wreaked havoc in India. And as the crises deepened, the Trans Hijra communities are once again marginalized, neglected, and reeling in starvation, isolation, and severe exposure to the infection. We need your help. Trans Hijra's lives are precious.

ParivarBayArea has once again stepped up to save our Indian Trans Hijra lives in India. There are over 4.6 lakhs at stake in our communities of TransHijra families and "Gharanas(guru–chela) houses".  In 2020, our efforts help save and support over 5000 folx with food, shelter, and rebuilding efforts from the first wave.

And this fundraiser is very critical to provide food and health kits, along with prevention and cure of those infected and other emergency needs. Each food kit is to include 10kgs of rice, wheat flour(5kgs), 2 kg of lentils, cooking oil, sugar, salt, chili powder, tea powder, turmeric and also includes a portion of jaggery, dry ginger powder, black pepper seeds & Indian mint. Our health kits include Zinda Talismath/Amrutanjan along with hand sanitizers, masks, and vitamin C OTC tablets. These distributions are already happening and our core team is in full swing with operations.

The trans community has been yet again impacted by the second wave of COVID-19. In 2020, ParivarBayArea put forward efforts to protect Trans Hijra communities across 6 organizations. Just as we began rebuilding with Trans entrepreneurship efforts including the launch of our South Asian store, the second wave took away our livelihood. Once again, Trans folx are left starting and vulnerable to the virus with imposed curfews and lockdowns to curb the spread.

For many decades now, the Trans Hijra communities within the South Asian Diaspora have been isolated, neglected and pushed into further poverty and desperation given the social stigma, false myths, and ignorance. The pandemic has furthered our marginalization. Our community has been left behind in all the large scale relief efforts happening internationally and right here at home. We need your valuable help. Please support and save our lives.

Our community needs your support. We are estimating about $446,334 to fulfill the hunger and safety needs of Trans Hijra Intersex Third gender and nonbinary by distributing Food and Health Kits. Our overall need across the next 3-6 months is approx.. $1.6M. These needs include sheltering in place, loss of employment, rent relief, emergency housing, medications and essentials, and vaccine access.
