Torrington local Food Bank is facing closure this week after a loss of funds. Without community donations, the doors will close for this organization for good.
Friendly Hands Food Bank has been helping hundreds of families within the community for 29 years. Unfortunately, this week due to unforeseen circumstances they are facing closure due to limited funds.
The Food Bank has had a rough year so far with the loss of 2 employees and 1 board member. The loss includes founder Mo Hubert who dedicated her entire adult life to the cause. The loss of 3 key people within a few months is beyond devastating to the organization.
The organization lost government funded grant of $30,000 a few years ago and has been running on community donations since. During dire times, Hubert would subsidize with her own personal funds but when she got sick, this of course could no longer continue.
The Food Bank serves 400 families that include children and seniors who still need assistance on a monthly basis
With all of these loss' happening so quickly, and the realization that the bank is out of funds the team has not been left with much time to make other plans to keep the doors open long term.
