The Forest Hill Village is facing destruction. Armel Development Group wants to build a 9-storey (10 foot ceiling) building on Spadina Rd, corner of Montclair. Despite objections from the City of Toronto Planning Department, community residents, and the two local Councillors involved, the Developers have appealed to the OMB.
These developers have hired expensive lawyers and planners looking to combat current zoning regulations and ignore local community’s needs.
South Forest Hill Residents Association (SFHRA) needs to raise $40,000 to hire professionals and experts to counter the aggressive nature of Armel Corporation and partners who seek to destroy Forest Hill Village with their proposed OVERdevelopment at 390-398 Spadina Road.
With the exception of the historically designated 'heritage' building, the developers own the entire set of buildings on the west side of Spadina between Montclair and Lonsdale Rd. If approved, this development would set an unwelcome and dangerous precedent and lead to more high-rise building that would further erode the character and quality of Forest Hill Village.
The SFHRA does welcome appropriate development of the site, especially to the storefronts these developers have neglected and left derelict for over a decade, but we need your help to protect the Village we use and care about.
A second OMB pre-hearing is scheduled for August 8th. We anticipate a date will be set for either mediation or the OMB hearing at that time. We are told that the proposed changes to the OMB will not have an impact on this development. We still need to have experts in place!
