I hope you are all safe, healthy and in good spirits. We are living in crazy times, but we will get through this. As many of you know, we spent our last 4 years attending Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Beyond the food and beverage focus (Marco’s love), part of what made the college experience special was Collegetown — a small strip full of restaurants, bars and apartments (where we lived junior and senior years). It was the place we’d go after class each day.
Now, every morning when we wake up, there is another restaurant that is either closing down, laying off staff or planning to do so. It is with heavy heart that we write you — we plead with you — to support the local Ithaca restaurants. For those of you who are unaware, Ithaca has more restaurants per capita than New York City and these restaurants NEED our help.
With the national closure of restaurants (only open for takeout and delivery), many of Ithaca’s restaurants have had to lay off many hourly employees, many of who are living paycheck to paycheck trying to support their families. From late night bagels at CTB to Sunday nights at Souvlaki House, these experiences helped make our time at Cornell special. Every dollar makes a difference and brings us closer to achieving our goal of helping those in need.
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in our communities we have created a GoFundMe to support all of our Collegetown and Ithaca restaurants and employees who have been impacted by the global pandemic. This fund aims to keep restaurants in business and employees solvent. All donations will go directly to the restaurants and their employees.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
