Save Brisbane's Lyceum/DendyTheatre

Brisbane's last historic picture palace, The Lyceum Theatre (also known as George Cinema / Dendy Cinema / Tribal Theatre), Queensland's first purpose built silent movie theatre, is at risk of being gutted, stripped of its theatre heritage and turned into an evangelical church, lost to the public forever. This theatre, greatly altered in the 1960s, requires some changes to keep it viable in an ever changing entertainment world. It was twinned by Dendy in the 1990s and now that non-structural dividing of the space needs to be removed to give the theatre a new opportunity to be a viable single format live variety theatre seating 700-800 people.
The best way to actually "save" The Lyceum is to therefore raise funds to address immediate safety code and compliance issues, conduct heritage research including creating a presentation and heritage applications, and removal of the theatre twin partition section to bring it back to its preserved 1965 single format theatre - enabling liquor licensing, making it possible for an entity to run it as a viable concert theatre for live music, comedy, circus, burlesque, variety and vaudeville acts, special film screenings, fashion parades, functions and forums.
To kick this off, the initial "start up" target would make the immediate taking on of a long term lease feasible on behalf of the arts community. Please note, no donations through this campaign will go towards becoming a shareholder, or receiving any sort of personal return for your donation.
My background, under the Odyssey banner, is in saving and managing several Brisbane non profit performing arts community venues including 'Pink Palace' clubhouse (former Victoria Park Golf Clubhouse - was refurbed with $2m restoration and is now a community health facility), Old Museum Building ($8m restoration - still operating as a community arts centre), and The Globe theatre ($1m refurb - now operating as a privately run live music venue).
Brisbane desperately needs an independent live variety theatre with the capacity of 700-800 people in the CBD - The Lyceum Theatre is perfectly situated to fill this important cultural void. Situated on George Street between the Queen Street Mall and Roma Street Transit Centre, this theatre will be immediately 'on the map'.
