Hello from all of us here at Blue Moon Café. We hope everyone is safe and well in these unprecedented times.
First of all, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us since we reopened post-lockdown. Whether you’ve been in once or are one of our regulars, we appreciate your kind feedback and support. We’re happy to have been able to adapt and grow as times change, and we’re so glad everyone is enjoying the new menu.
Blue Moon Café is one of Sheffield’s oldest vegan and vegetarian businesses, having been set up in 1995! We serve a variety of main meals with our classic salad selection, from our old favourites Imam Bayeldi and Hommity Pie, to new dishes such as Tempura Mushrooms and Carrot & Cumin Falafels. We also offer coffee with oat, soya or dairy milk, and a selection of vegan cakes. In our historic building situated next to Sheffield Cathedral, you will find a selection of artwork from local artists, displayed free of charge, in order to encourage creativity in Sheffield. In the past, we have hosted music events and buffet meals, as well as fundraising for ASSIST, a local charity that supports asylum seekers.
As many of you will know, being an independent hospitality business during the coronavirus pandemic has been and continues to be really difficult. We have made a lot of positive changes to the way we run our business, both in line with government regulations and as part of an effort to improve our service. However, Sheffield city centre is not as busy as it used to be, and we are currently not making enough money to cover all our costs, including rent, wages for five full-time staff members and other bills and repairs.
Just as it’s been getting colder, our boiler has sadly broken. It will cost almost £3000 to replace, which we simply cannot afford at this moment in time. We also need repairs to the roof in the kitchen. These costs go well beyond the amount of money we are currently making.
So – we need your help! We are crowdfunding for a new boiler and roof repairs to keep us all cosy and warm whilst we work hard to bring you delicious veggie and vegan food, Monday to Saturday. We promise to be transparent with how we spend the money, and we will post receipts and information about what we do with the money we raise. We appreciate every donation, no matter how big or small.
We celebrated our 25th birthday back in June, and we are determined to keep going! We know there are some customers that might be currently unable to visit us due to the pandemic too, and we would hate to close before we see you again.
