Save American Writer Willa Cather's Birthplace

Donation protected
The clock is ticking to save the Frederick County, Virginia, birthplace of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Willa Cather, one of America's most important writers. The home has been vacant for years and is in dilapidated condition. Efforts to preserve the house, where Cather was born in 1873, stalled a number of years ago when the owner changed his mind about selling the property. He has since passed away, and the property is being listed for sale for approximately $200,000. Cather relatives in Virginia and others are trying to raise funds to purchase the property so that it is not lost to time. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, but that does not protect it from demolition. If you are a lover of Cather's works, such as "My Antonia" and "O Pioneers!," please consider making a donation to help save this important literary landmark. We are trying to raise $200,000 to buy the property and $100,000 for basic stabilization efforts.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Cather's birth, so it seems fitting that we make every effort to save her birthplace.

Thank you for your consideration.
