AutoCamp: Bad for Bear Mountain. Bad for Sedona. Bad for Yavapai County.
Help up STOP the AutoCamp development!
Bear Mountain is surrounded by pristine wilderness and culturally significant Native American sites. AutoCamp, a California developer backed by over $100 million in private equity, is proposing to build an 18-acre commercial lodging/resort development consisting of 100 camping units (85 airstream trailers, 10 huts, 5 tents), a clubhouse and other amenities at the base of Bear Mountain.
We are a group of local residents of Yavapai County who are committed to stopping this proposed development. These funds will help defray the significant legal expenses to fight this very well-heeled developer, both with the Yavapai County Planning and Zoning Commission, the Yavapai Board of Supervisors and the Forest Service.
We oppose this development for several reasons:
• AutoCamp brings little to no value to either Sedona or the County, as airstream trailers do not require local materials or labor to build and they don’t pay our property tax. At the same time, a resort this remote will require fire, police and ambulance services from Sedona and the County. This rezone request is a significant ask by the developer while providing nothing in return to Yavapai County residents.
• Significant fire risk for Secret Mountain Wilderness from 100 open fire pits on property.
• 15,000- 20,000 annual guests creating at least 150,000 car round trips a year will create significant traffic, congestion and damage to the surrounding pristine wilderness areas with it’s many Native American artifacts.
• The Airstreams are an eyesore and will be visible from many location throughout the county at the foot of our iconic Bear Mountain.
We believe the AutoCamp development will put Bear Mountain and our community at risk.
