Save baby Krew-Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Hi, my name is Nicole Weick. I am 21 years young and I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby.

I’ve kept quiet about this because it honestly is so scary and I don’t want it to be real. But I am now forced to face the heart breaking reality- my baby is sick. I’ve tried to avoid asking for help at all costs and I’ve left it to the last minute because I didn’t want to do this but I know I’m going to need help.

So here is what is happening and why your support will mean the absolute world to me (buckle up):

Krew has a condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) which is an opening/hole in the diaphragm which has so far allowed the large colon and small intestine up into the left side of his chest putting pressure on the left lung. (This condition happens to 1 in 2,500 babies) In result of this hernia, it is causing injury to Krews lungs because they are unable to grow and develop normally and fully before he is born, and Krews heart is on the right side of his chest, instead of the left. (Refer to picture)

Because of the lack of development of his lungs, immediately after birth he is going to need assistance breathing by ventilator and will be sedated. He will then be taken into the NICU where he will be incubated anywhere from 2-7 days to become stable, and once he is stable he will go into surgery to repair the hernia.

After the surgery Krew is in Gods hands and it’s all up to Him.

The doctors told me to prepare for him to be on a ventilator and sedated for a month or more and the hospital stay to be anywhere from 2-5 months.

I am currently living in Ogden, Utah and I’m going to need to relocate to Salt Lake City once labor is likely to start because I will be giving birth at the U.

At about 35 weeks I’ll be living in a hotel downtown until it’s baby time!<3  I will have to leave my full time job for about 4-6 months because Krew will need full time care from me. If he makes it out of the hospital the recovery is about a year as he will come home on oxygen and a feeding tube.

Your donation will cover medical bills, costs of living for those months I have to relocate, food, gas to go see my baby in the hospital, and anything Krew needs. I would also like to donate some of the money I receive to the CDH cause that helps other families who are suffering from the same condition to give them some relief and support, specially Tiny Hero and the Ronald McDonald House.

Thank you for your time to read this and your support. I appreciate the opportunity to even allow people to be aware of CDH. If you have any questions at all my messages are open!
