<div>Aliaksei “Alexei” Shcharbachenia is a Belarusian asylum seeker who has been detained by ICE at the Farmville Detention Center in Virginia since August 2025. ICE has already attempted to deport him to Belarus and may try again at any time. He urgently needs an experienced immigration attorney.

<div>This fundraiser is being organized by a U.S.-based supporter who is helping Alexei secure legal representation, prepare documents, and coordinate emergency assistance. All funds will be used only for his legal defense and related case expenses.

<div>Following the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, Alexei was detained by Belarusian security forces. According to his testimony, he was held for four days, beaten, sprayed with high-pressure water, deprived of food, and forced to remain on a concrete floor.
</div>

</div>
<div>After his release, he published information about officers involved in violence against protesters. He was placed under surveillance, police visited people close to him, and Alexei was later placed on a wanted list in Belarus.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2021, he fled Belarus. After arriving in the United States, he informed immigration authorities that he was afraid to return and filed an asylum application within the required period.
</div>

</div>
<div>In August 2025, Alexei was arrested for allegedly using a fraudulent commercial driver’s license. The license was later determined to be valid, and all criminal charges were dismissed. Nevertheless, he was not released and remained in ICE custody.
</div>

</div>
<div>Alexei had no attorney in immigration court and, according to him, no meaningful access to a Russian-language interpreter. Although he had previously filed an asylum application and submitted more than 200 pages of evidence, the required form was not timely refiled directly with the immigration court.
</div>

</div>
<div>The judge issued a deportation order without considering the substance of Alexei’s claims or the risk of persecution and torture in Belarus. While detained, Alexei was unable to find an attorney in time to file an appeal.
</div>

</div>
<div>In May 2026, ICE attempted to deport him to Belarus through Turkey and Azerbaijan. Alexei refused to board the flight to Minsk because he feared that he would be immediately detained and tortured upon arrival.
</div>

</div>
<div>According to Alexei, an American escort later struck him in the head inside an airport detention cell in Turkey, causing him to lose consciousness, and then choked him. His hands and feet were secured with plastic restraints. After he was returned to the United States, he says he did not receive appropriate medical care for the head injury.
</div>

</div>
<div>Alexei also needs medical evaluation for a painful and growing mass on his arm and loss of sensation in his fingers. Despite repeated requests, he has not yet been examined by an appropriate specialist.
</div>
