Alberta’s Vision Fund

We are building The Alberta G. Riley Fellowship Hall, which will be located at The Well FGBC in Chester, Pennsylvania. The Well honored Mother Riley in September 2017 by establishing “Mother Riley Day”, and just like that, she was gone just a few months later.

Pastor Will Shelley has designated space within the church’s lower sanctuary, which will be used to house the memorial hall named in honor of my mom, Alberta G. Riley. Work has already begun, but in order to hold the dedication ceremony at The Well in December 2018, we need your help.

Back Story of an Angel

Anyone who has ever gotten to know Mother Alberta Riley, quickly discovered just how full of love and wisdom she was.

Despite being totally blind, Mother Riley was extremely strong, independent and deeply concerned about the well-being of others.

Her greatest passion was serving in her “telephone ministry” that she conducted, on a daily basis, from her modest home in Wilmington, Delaware.

She was deeply devoted to her calling as an elder and always ended every conversation with, “I love you more.” She truly lived by the words, “You Matter.”

Mother Riley worked for many years as a Psychiatric Attendant for the State of Delaware until her retirement due to health issues.

After losing her sight to a hereditary eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa, she had to learn how to make it through each day relying on her keen memory, a close network of trusted friends and family and her faith in God. She truly put her trust in Him every day!

One of 14 children, Mother Riley was a coalminer’s daughter, born in the mountains of West Virginia in the heart of Appalachia. She began working to help support herself and her family at the tender age of eight years old. No matter how great a challenge might have been, or how overwhelming the odds might have seemed, she always rose to the occasion and overcame everything with courage and grace.

On December 22, 2017, Mother Riley was called home to be with The Lord, just two days before Christmas Eve at the age of 80 years old. Although, we can never replace Mother Alberta Riley, we can save her vision for bringing people together in the spirit of love and fellowship.
