Save a species-rich wet meadow for wildlife

Donation protected
This pair of small fields on the banks of the river Tamar on the Devon-Cornwall border is a precious surviving fragment of unimproved wet-meadow habitat that is rich in wildlife and conservation potential. The site is valuable for a range of flora and fauna, and will be used as a base for conservation, environmental education, and as a seed-source for larger-scale wilding projects in the area.

Update 17th October: The site is being bought! On Tuesday 15th, the deposit of £2,000 was paid, resulting in the site being taken off the open market, and we are now making the arrangements for payment of the full cost of £22,000. We are continuing the crowdfunder to help to meet this total, and to build up funds for the long term management of the site (to cover fencing, habitat restoration, educational work, etc.). Thank you to all who are donating and working behind the scenes on securing the purchase -the response so far has been astonishing and humbling!

Please circulate widely, and consider donating -many thanks!

Update 9th October: Fantastic news!!! Our direct offer has been accepted by the Vendor, and we are now confident that the site will be taken off the open market and that the sale can be completed promptly. The crowdfunder will continue to take donations to fund the purchase, and to build up an endowment for the long-term management of the meadows (to cover fencing, habitat restoration, educational work, etc.).

Update 8th October: Following detailed discussions over the last 24 hours with the Vendor and Land Agents, we are going ahead with a direct offer, using a combination of the crowdfunder donations and personal pledges made offline (i.e. not via the crowdfunder site) to underwrite the purchase. If this direct offer is accepted, the site would be taken off the open market while the purchase is completed -removing the risk of the site being sold to another bidder. We have increased the crowdfunder target to £25K so that any additional funds are available for the long-term management of the site (fencing, habitat restoration, educational work, etc.).
