A 47 year old father of 6 diagnosed 5 years ago with congestive heart failure. Mendy has been struggling and barely surviving with his heart functioning at only 5 - 10%. A few months ago his heart almost completely stopped functioning and went below 5%. Doctors advised him to stay hospitalized until an emergency heart transplant can be performed. Unfortunately, while waiting for a desperately needed heart, Mendy was rushed in to an emergency 9 hour open heart surgery to install an artificial pump (LVAD) to temporarily help his heart function until a replacement heart is found.
Mendy was hospitalized at the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in Maimonides hospital where he is being treated by amazing doctors. Unfortunately, he has not been able to work since May of 2018 and his wife has been running nonstop taking care of their large family and finding her husband the best medical treatment there is on barely any sleep.
This devastating situation has left the family in dire straits. They have 2 kids in college and 4 more in grade school. It is hard enough for them emotionally but now they are struggling financially. Medication cost them around $1,000 a month just to keep a father of 6 alive.
Please use your beating hearts and have compassion on a struggling family so that their father’s heart won’t skip a beat.
Mandy undergone an open heart surgery and had an artificial device LVAD installed, which was meant to help his heart beat and get him to a physical state which will allow him to get a heart transplant. Unfortunately the device has been causing him extremely dangerous low blood pressure where he is susceptible to pass out at any given moment. During one episode of passing out, he was alone and hit his head severely. He was unconscious for hours until a family member found him. Hatzolah was unable to revive him and rushed him to the hospital. His family was informed that he hit his head so bad causing him brain damage and that they weren't sure how long he would be in a state of coma. Thank G-d, he got up the next day and a NES happened where his brain was not damaged. At this point doctor's have advised him that he must have a transplant ASAP which will cost the family $200,000. Please open your hearts and help this beautiful family get their dear father back.
