Save a Disabled Veterans Dream

Help me save the Gasconade Veterans Memorial Campground (GVMC). I am a 100% disabled Veteran that bought land on the Gasconade River in Laclede County, Missouri, to build a campground for other people with disabilities. I purchased the property in 2013 and began to make improvements. Over the past 5 years while I was slowly making improvements on the land, I have had four different disabled Veterans in need live here at no cost to them. One was here for over two years. He was undergoing cancer treatments and had no one that could help him get to his chemotherapy appointments. I drove him to all of them until he was in remission. This year I was hit with a record flood. The flood waters reached about 40 feet 9 inches. I lost my truck and what was left of 30 years of memories from my world travels. There was extensive damage to the 40ft X 100ft pavilion and other structures on the property. Honestly, I did not have flood insurance because I could not afford the $1400 premium up front. Losing the truck put me deep in the hole. I had to come up with a down payment to get a new vehicle and cleaning from the flood was very slow going because of my injuries. I had friend come over to help me clean and hired some kids from the area when they couldn’t. I had just started to show signs of progress when what happens??……I’m out getting supplies at Lowes for rebuilding and finishing the interior of my cabin with two friends at Lowes when the tornado sirens went off. After the all clear, we started to make the way to GVMC, stopping to move many downed trees. I get there and there is so much damage to the property. Many of my biggest and prettiest trees were knocked down. There was damage to the roof of the pavilion, the BBQ pit inside it, damage to the roof of the cabin, one shed completely flattened and debris scattered everywhere.  Once again I’m overwhelmed with the damage from Mother Nature. To add insult to injury, the credit union came out to do their yearly inspection just five days later! I financed the property as a business loan to build a campground to make a place for others with disabilities, so they would have a place to come and relax. Part of the condition of the business loan is that the credit union comes out once a year to inspect the property and of course they showed up when everything was a complete mess. I didn’t think much of the visit because I have had flooding before, nothing like this, and it did not affect the renewal of the loan. This time however, the credit union informed me that they would not renew the business loan because of the damage (90% repaired before their notice) and they wanted all $64,000 immediately. To make things worse, just after Christmas I was out of town and a friend was watching my house, an ember from the wood stove landed outside of the stove and burned through the unfinished portion of the floor, starting a fire. Fortunately, my friend noticed the smoke and put out the fire. The fire department arrived to ensure the fire was completely out. Now there is a 16-inch hole in the floor. Another repair and claim with the insurance…add to that, the credit union wants to sell the property. I have tried multiple ways to find a new bank to finance the property, but no one would help because I damaged my credit by over-extending while rebuilding from the flooding and tornado. So, the credit union has given me until the 18th of January to vacate the house. That day they will hold an auction and I will lose the dream of Gasconade Veterans Memorial Campground. I have spent the last five years building the cabin, making improvements on the pavilion and helping others that I am on the verge of losing my dream of helping others. My Son and some other friends have suggested a Go Fund Me page, which I have reluctantly and as a last-ditch effort, decided to try. If I raise any money, but do not reach the goal to save the property, the money will be given to Missouri Patriot Paws of Missouri and Heroes Gone Wild of Texas (Both have Facebook pages and you can check with them about my efforts). The goal is to raise $64,000. If successful, this will not only save the property for me, but for others that have disabilities. Anything over the goal will go towards improvements to the campground. Please help me to save my home and the campground, so that I can build a place for people with disabilities. The campground is not for just Soldiers, Policemen or First Responders, but ANYONE with a disability.
