Save a Wolf Puppy with Epilepsy

I have been a lover of wolves my entire life!  Early on I made it a mission to one day adopt some and have them become ambassadors to help educate the public. They are some of the most understood animals and because of hunters and ranchers, have been branded so horribly wrong. Wolves are one of the most family oriented species on earth. Adult wolves LOVE any and all pups they are introduced to, whether they are related to them or not. Their whole structure in the pack revolves around a family setting where each wolf in the pack has a parental role helping to teach and guide young pups to become essential members of the pack. They act as parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters. They are very much like humans in this aspect. Wolves are not the bloodthirsty monster movies and TV shows make them out to be. In fact, it has been proven that wolves play a vital role in the ecosystem as we have seen in Yellowstone National Park. Contrary to what ranchers and hunters would have you believe, wolves actually only hunt prey that are diseased and weak therefore balancing out the natural order of the ecosystem. They do not attack humans! In the last 100 years there has only been two attacks on record. Compare that to bears, where there has been over 40 in the last 15 years.

I could go on and on forever about how beautiful the wolf is, but this is about one special wolf pup named Akina and how she desperately needs your help.


Just four months ago our I decided to adopt a beautiful Timberline wolf pup from a horrible puppy mill in central Oregon. Upon arriving I witnessed around 30 pups living in absolute filth with no love or care being given to them at all. I immediately wanted to rescue them all but unfortunately did not have the money or resources to be able to help them out. Instead I chose the smallest and shyest of them all, emptied my savings account, and gave her a loving home and care that she so desperately needed.


I learned very quickly that Akina is a loving and compassionate puppy. She adores cuddling up with anyone on the couch and watching TV. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, which is seen when she plays with my two small cats. She never bites them or growls at them but instead loves to cuddle up and bring them her own treats from time to time. I think my cats get a little confused by this behavior, but they love her all the same too. They are always walking around the house looking for Akina when she is outside. It’s so cute that they are all pals! She is also extremely intelligent as most wolves are. You rarely have to tell her a command more than once before she grasps it completely. She absolutely loves water! The hose, the pond, a lake, a river, she’s jumping right in! Only being 6 months old, she also knows how to open doors, help with laundry, and alert me when it’s bed time. She “talks” a lot ☺


So it was to my dismay that after only a few weeks of owning her I started to notice her having seizures where she would whimper uncontrollably, lose bowel control, and wobble back and forth for over 6 hours at a time. I immediately rushed her to an urgent care veterinarian where they conducted many tests. After a few weeks of eliminating different possibilities (and spending over $5,000), it was discovered that she has a rare form of epilepsy. I have exhausted every option from alternative medicine to weekly therapy to monthly stabilizing medication, and all have failed. I am only left with one option, and that is for Akina to undergo Neurosurgery to correct her disease. If not, I have to watch her continue to have seizures in pain and eventually die from this disease. It is absolutely heartbreaking for me to have to stand by and do nothing. The cost of the surgery is $20,000 which I do not have. I would be so very grateful if you get help donate to her cause.
