SAVANNAH'S HELMETS

Savannah Beverley was born on May 5, 2017. Her mom Jenny had a very stressful pregnancy with her as dr's were concerned about Savannah's stomach and its growth. They kept telling her that her stomach was in the 1st percentile. Jenny had no idea what challenges were going to lie ahead for Savannah. But Savannah was born 3.5 weeks early (as per dr's orders), and appeared to be healthy. Nothing wrong with her stomach.
Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago when a routine visit to a pediatrician turned Jenny's world upside down. The pediatrician was concerned about the shape of Savannah's head. He requested an emergency x-ray of Savannah's head. No more than a couple hours later, Jenny received the phone call that Savannah's head showed abnormalities and that she would be referred to Sick Kids.
June 19, 2017, Savannah, Jenny, Walter and my auntie Bev headed to Sick Kids for the appt with the neurologist. Savannah has what is called "Scaphocephaly" which defined is that the bones of the skull fuse together before the brain has finished growing. Savannah will be undergoing surgery in the month of July to hopefully correct her skull and allow for her head to grow properly.
Due to this surgey being on her head, Savannah will have to wear a helmet for approximately the next 5-7 months of her life, possibly more. The cost of the helmets are $2500.00 each and she could potentially need 3-4 helmets depending on how long she needs to wear one and how much her head grows. Unfortunately, the helmets are not covered by OHIP and both Jenny and Walter do not have extended health benefits to help with the cost.
Please help as much as you can so that we can ease the burden of the costs of the helmets so that Jenny and Walter can focus on Savannah's surgery and her recovery.
