As you may know, our friend, Saundra Nichols (aka Saundra Nichols-Liveris) underwent serious medical surgery March 1 that included extensive rehabilitation. She has had to close her medical massage practice in December and it’s uncertain, if and when, she will be able to reopen. She is currently facing months of rehab and may never be able to withstand the rigor of being on her feet all day.
While Saundra would never ask for help, many friends ARE asking how they can help. So, we have set up this webpage to make it easy to support her. In order to help with out-of -pocket medical and living expenses, we have set a goal of $30,000.
Here is additional background information on Saundra’s journey:
At the age of 19, Saundra had an accident resulting in a fractured right hip. Prior to surgery to fix the fracture, her leg was in traction for 16 hours. Unfortunately, the delay led to avascular necrosis. Three more surgeries were performed over two years in hopes to re-establish blood supply but were unsuccessful. By 1988, at the age of 25, she had her first of three hip replacements. The first revision of her hip replacement was in 1999 and the second one a year later due to failure. In 2003 she underwent an eighth surgery to remove a plate and several screws in her femur and knee due to the pain they were causing.
Over two years ago she learned that her third hip replacement was failing; by this past December the pain had increased dramatically.
While the exact costs of the surgery and rehab will not be known until the bills start coming in, we do know that Saundra has only catastrophic medical insurance with a deductible just under $17,000. Additionally, she will most likely be without income for at least six months.
