Many of you who will read this know Don and Tami Smith. Don and his family have faithfully served the church and our community for many years.

Behind the scenes at church Don is always doing the sound or set-up for events, and on Thursday nights you can often find him at county jail holding a Bible study for the inmates there, always working outside the lime-light. In the community Don is probably best known as “Coach Don” after coaching Youth baseball for14 years.

The Smith’s oldest son is now married and his second son is at college in Arizona playing baseball, but Don and Tami still have plenty of parenting ahead with their 16 year-old son and 13 year-old daughter still at home.

This past September 16th, Don and Tami and the family were celebrating their youngest son's birthday by taking in an Angels game with plans to visit their favorite place,
Disneyland, the next day. Don was not feeling well, but did not want to disappoint his family so he pushed through. But while at Disneyland he became so fatigued he had to rest on a bench. Tami sat with him while the kids ran off and had some more fun.

It was evident to Tami that Don was not well and she convinced him to go to urgent care. Thank God for that! The doctors and nurses could not believe what they found. Don's blood pressure was a dangerously high 286/160 and he was rushed to the hospital. It was literally by the grace of God that he did not suffer from a stroke or heart attack.

However, Don did suffer kidney failure.

After spending 5 days in the hospital Don is now at home and, although hopeful of a recovery, he has a long road ahead as the doctors try to dial in his meds and he
adjusts his daily routine for dialysis as he awaits a transplant.

The doctor is insisting that he take several months off from work. Between the medical expenses and the loss of income this is putting significant strain on the family's finances. As many of you have probably experienced, dealing with the recovery from a serious health issue is not helped by financial demands.

Don and Tami and their children are extremely grateful for those of you who are led to help them in their time of crisis by giving to help with all the expenses that continue to grow.

God bless you!
