Sarpol-e-Zahab Earthquake Relief

Dear Family & Friends,
On Sunday November 12, 2017 a devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the Iran/Iraq border region. The worst of the damage was in our hometown of Sarpol-e-Zahab in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah. The death toll in Sarpol-e-Zahab alone has risen to 530, with fears that the official figure will be significantly higher. We have lost relatives including children to those numbers.
80 per cent of the buildings in the town have been damaged, leaving ALL of our family without a home to return to. Many of the newly homeless have taken shelter in parks with little to protect them from the cold nights air. There is a dire need for food, medicine and tents.
We ask you, family & friends, to help us fundraise for basic needs including food, shelter and basic necessities. We will be sending 100% of the money raised to families affected by the earthquake in the poorest rural neighbouring villages near Sarpol-E-Zahab.

1. Who you are and where you’re from
My name is Parveneh Palani. My family and I were displaced from our hometown of Sarpol-E-Zahab, Iran in the 1980 Iran/Iraq war. We were living in Romadi, Iraq as refugees when we were fortunately sponsored by a church to come to Canada in 1989.
2. Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds
Our family has a deep love for our hometown of Sarpol-E-Zahab. ALL of our immediate family lives in the devastated earthquake zone. Therefore we have many contacts in which to send funds. We have been moved to collect funds for the poorest families among the villages near the city of Sarpol-E-Zahab.
3. How the funds will be spent
We are hoping to send 100% of the money raised to families affected by the earthquake in the poorest rural neighbouring villages near Sarpol-E-Zahab. We trust our contacts in that region to disperse these funds according to their needs. Whether that is in form of shelter, food or rebuilding costs.
4. Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary or beneficiaries.
We have two avenues to whom we will release the funds to. The first avenue is to trusted family in the neighbouring cities of Sarpol-E-Zahab,Iran. As their cities are relatively untouched by the earthquake, they will have access to banks and aid supplies and will act as relief organizers. We also will be collaborating with the Charity Red Sun Norway. Their organization will be sending a team of volunteers to actively engage in relief efforts in the coming weeks. http://rodesol.no/
