During the summer of 2016 Sara was on a mission trip to Guatemala when it was discovered that she had a VERY rare tumor (MALIGNANT GASTROINTESTINAL NEUROECTODERMAL TUMOR) on her intestine. She underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor in Guatemala City and then flew back to MUSC where she spent many months dealing with issues of infections and such along with also traveling to MD Anderson and Sloan-Kettering to meet cancer specialists. All of this occurring during her senior year of high school.
Sara began to feel much better and scans results were showing clear. Halleluja! Sara graduated and began her college studies at The College of Charleston where she is a Freshman. This past winter while at school Sara began suffering some pain and underwent gallbladder surgery where they also found a pocket of infection from her previous surgeries and treated it. Sara was back in school as quickly as she was able and feeling well again.
Unfortunatley, she has hit yet another bump in the road. She has been battling a high fever and was admitted back into MUSC. They have found a spot and need to do surgery again. Due to the rareness of her initial diagnosis she will need to go the Sloan-Kettering in NYC to have this surgery. As you can only imagine the cost for medical treatment and travel are overwhelming. We have started this page so that those of you who want to show your love and support have an easy means to do so. No amount is too small and prayers are definately appreciated! Please share this with your friends and family. This family does so much for others and now could truly use our help.
