I was recently accepted to the University of Southern Maine School of Counselor Education to gain a Master of Science in Counseling degree. I ultimately want to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and work at a university so that I may help students stay on track to stay in school and to reach their highest potential.

I'm interested in helping college students, specifically, because it is critical they get the help they need in order for them to do well the rest of their lives.

I didn't get the help I needed when I was in school which lead me to not getting my degree and wasting many years not living up to my greatest potential. It took me over twenty years to come out of a fog of depression and anxiety but once I did, I finally earned my bachelor’s degree May of 2016.

I then earned a scholarship to help me take a graduate class in counseling the fall of 2016. While studying for class which I did well in, I also studied for and received a high score on the MAT exam, and worked on my application. I finally got word of my acceptance this past January.

I am very excited to have finally discovered what I want to do with my life, now I just need to figure out how to pay for it.

I have applied for every scholarship I could find. I have been approved for federal student loans. I won a competitive scholarship from the University Of Southern Maine Office of Graduate Studies in the form of a tuition waiver for 36 of the 63 credits I need to graduate. I still I need to raise another $5,000. Though I live very minimally, even with maximum student loans, a scholarship and working part time, I will not have enough money to get by. I need your contribution just to be able to make ends meet.

The $5,000 from this campaign will give me $400 a month to help me pay basic bills for the next 12 months starting in September. I will be going to school full time starting this September for the next 2 1/2 years. This campaign will help me for the first year.

Please enable me to help students who are struggling as I did. There is no need for people to waste years of their lives not living up to their fullest potential as I had to. After many years of determined self-discovery and perseverance through hardships, I am compelled to turn back to those behind me and reach out a helping hand. I need to finally live up to my life’s potential by helping others. By helping me, you will be helping many more students meet their greatest potential as well.
