Sarah Struzzi's Mission in Uganda

U-ganda be kidding me, you’re going to Africa?!

I am! I’m going to Mbale, Uganda, March 9th — March 24th, through JENGA . As you may know, going to Africa for a mission trip has been a major focus of mine for a while . Some have asked why I don’t want to volunteer in the states. Answer: I definitely do! But there’s more to this Uganda trip than simply volunteering. In all honesty, part of it is because I don’t know what true poverty looks and acts like. As terrible as this sounds, the only reason I’ve ever been to a 3rd world country is for a resort (I know, not great to admit).

For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” -Acts 13:47

I believe that God is calling me to experience the ends of the earth, to experience true poverty, to help those less fortunate than myself, to take a leap and just go for it. Even though this is just for 2 weeks, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to have even the smallest impact, and you never know what the future holds…

So what exactly will I be doing? JENGA is an incredible organization, and I owe a million thanks to Jessica Johns for leading me to this special group of people with an amazing mission:

To improve the quality of life of the vulnerable and disadvantaged in the poorest communities by demonstrating the love of God through word and deed.

I am honored to be a part of this mission and to be a tool in God’s belt to spread His love by working on a multitude of projects: ministering to children on the street, participating in women’s prayer groups, empowering women with savings and loans groups, visiting youths in prison, educating coffee farmers on best practices to get a greater ROI, and so many more. Am I terrified? Of course! I have no idea what’s in store for me. I’ve read SO much literature and have done SO much research on mission trips, Uganda, all the diseases I could get, all the bugs I could encounter, etc (I’m sure this comes as a surprise to absolutely no one). With all of that knowledge, I am excited because I know God will be with me.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

If you want to follow my journey, my instagram handle is sarah_struzzi. I’ll be posting as often as I can (barring the wifi situation).

If you’ve gotten this far, THANK YOU for reading! THANK YOU for taking an interest in my life and my cause. I am by no means expecting a donation but if you feel that you would like to support me, I would greatly appreciate it! The money that you donate will fund my trip to Uganda and my expenses while I’m there: flight, rent, wifi, food, etc.

Thanks again and God bless
