Hello friends and family.
As I begin to plan my clinical year of PA school, I have been blessed with many opportunities to travel abroad and provide medical care. I have dreamt of doing international medical work for a long time and I am thrilled that I am finally able to fulfill that dream.
With these opportunities comes many financial requirements. I am trying to raise some money to help fund these experiences as I feel they will not only make me a better medical practitioner but they will build my character.
The first experience is coming around this May!! I am so excited to have been chosen to participate in a mission trip to Guatemala to work with Hearts in Motion. 25 PA students and 5 of our staff will work in a clinic for a week mid-May. Hearts in Motion is a wonderful program that helps us interact with the community as well as provide medical care to those in need. They are an established not-for-profit organization in Guatemala since 1990. They provide experiences for medical students through programs, a nutrition center, an orphanage, a school sponsorship, Medical jornadas, and many others. Below are the projected costs:
H.I.M. Program Cost - $1000 (includes hotel accommodations, meals and in-country ground transportation)
Airline Transportation and Travel Insurance - $800
Medical Supplies and Equipment - $200
Immunizations - $60
Cost to Arcadia after Immunizations = $1,925 per Student
I know this is a lot of money, but I am certain the experiences I will receive will be more than worth the money spent. ANY amount you feel you can contribute is a help! And if you feel you cannot help financially, prayers for my experience as a whole are just as appreciated.
My second experience will come next fall. I have interviewed to participate in an international rotation in Uganda. This medical journey would be a month long where I will REALLY get to dive into the community while working in a medical clinic. I have chosen this site because of the interconnection with faith and community. The organization is called Serge and they are known for their combination of medical care and Christian faith. As a life long believer, I have felt deeply called to this site. I am not sure how God plans to work through me in this experience, but I am passionate that this is where he is calling me. Below are the projected costs:
Visa: $200
Housing and meals provided with host family
Airfare: $1,200
Spending money: $400 (subject to change)
Total = $1,800
Again, I realize this is a lot of money to ask for and I do not expect to raise it all! (thank you loans). Still, any amount you feel you can contribute chips away at the overall cost. I truly believe these experiences will shape me as a person and I hope all the loved ones in my life feel the same and see the value in the work I will do. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me or talk with me in person over the holidays. The money for Guatemala is not due until January or early February and the money for Uganda is not due till Fall semester. I cannot thank you all enough for being such a blessing to my life. I hope to make you all proud in the work I do as well as in the eyes of God. I am so excited for this next year of my life and I can't wait to share it with you all!
