Sarah's Medical Fund for short term

Donation protected
In April of this year Sarah was found shot on the railroad tracks. The bullet entered her left side, going through her lung, the middle of her spinal cord destroying her C7 and shredding all of her nerves leaving her a quadraplegic. She has been in the hospital since and has been receiving acute physical therapy.

The hospital is ready to dismiss her and she has no where to go. Although she has made tremendous strides, she still needs 24 hour care and continued rehabilitaion. Our goal is to get her to a Rehabilitation Center but she needs to have the Medicaid in place first. Therefore she needs to go to a nursing home until that happens.

We have filed for SSI, SSDI and Medicaid for her. Since the Medicaid has not yet gone through we are having a hard time placing her in a nursing home. Her needs are great as she will need a hoyer lift, hospital bed, other smaller equipment and of course 24 hour nursing.

Everyone in her family works full time and no one's house is set up for this type of situation. That could happen but it would take knocking down walls, widening doors and installing walk in showers. We are not asking for funding for that as ime has run out and they are wanting to dismiss her.

As soon as her Medicaid kicks in and she has been in rehab for 3 months The Whole Person will step in to help her receive all of the care she needs. Hopefully she will be able to live in an assisted home for people with her disabilities and possibly raise her children.

Our hopes are to get enough funding to see her through the next 60-90 days financially, find a home for her during that time and get her onto the next journey of her life.

We know that there are many people in this world that have needs and some greater than hers. If you are able to donate we appreciate it, if not we thank you so much for taking the time to read this page. Perhaps you have experience in these situations and know of a program or an agency that offers temporary placement for Quadraplegics in these situations. Any help or advice in that area would be much accepted.

Sincerely,

Sarah's family!
