Arno Family

On Wednesday March 1st, Firefighter Jason Arno of Engine Company 2, of the Buffalo Fire Department heroically died in the line of duty while battling a 4 alarm fire on the 700 block of Main Street in downtown Buffalo.

This tragic loss has devastated all those whose lives were intertwined with Jason’s as he was a devoted family man, fear-less first responder, and generous friend. The unimaginable grief being endured by the Arno family, will ripple out and be felt by many of us in the Buffalo Community. Jason was loved by many and was a man of integrity, acceptance, and a rare abundance of kindness.

Having had the privilege to know Jay Arno, you would not be surprised by his selflessness and bravery that arose on March 1st. It is hard to comprehend, but there is much more to this man than his fearless actions the day he was called upon by the city that he loved so much.

Jason was also a trained chef who loved to share his gift and exceptional talents in the kitchen with his family, friends, and firefighter brothers and sisters. He and his wife welcomed so many into their lives, spreading love and laughter, providing a comforting surrounding that was always felt within their home. We will always hold tightly those beautiful memories created while breaking bread at his table.

No one will feel this heartbreaking loss more than his wife Sarah-Liz and their three-year-old daughter, Olivia. Jason lived every waking moment of his life for his girls and served as their constant protector, relentless provider, and limitless source of over-flowing love, affection, and pride. Jason Arno was truly defined by his family. He was a man who put his wife and daughter first, and sacrificed everything to ensure they were cared for. He was extremely proud of Sarah-Liz for putting herself through nursing school. Sarah is also a beacon to our community by caring for our loved ones as an RN at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Olivia is the precious gift that Jay leaves behind. His love for his daughter prompted him to leave the kitchen and embark on the journey that brought him to serve as one of Buffalo’s bravest. He joined the Buffalo Fire Department to ensure his family was provided for.

Please help Jason rest easy knowing Sarah-Liz and Olivia Arno can grieve the loss of their husband and father without the pressures of financial insecurity. He paid the ultimate price and they made the ultimate sacrifice for the people of Buffalo.

As Jay, Sarah-Liz and Olivia's close friend I am asking the Buffalo community to once again stand together. Please share their story and consider giving any donations that will be given directly to his girls.
