FIGHTING CANCER IN A FOREIGN LAND
(Story as narrated by my cousin Bbira Kafumbe) .

A little bit about Sarah:-
She has dedicated over 30 years of her life as a mid-wife delivering 5000+ babies into this world. She is selfless and a strong pillar in the family. A devoted wife, mother of 5 and grandmother of 6. She is facing the most difficult time of her life but still motivates us to stay strong.

It all started aboard a Delta flight with my mother to Canada to visit my Aunt and cousins for the holidays. As I was nodding off on the plane , I heard a loud gasp for air; I opened my eyes and saw mum undergoing a seizure. Her head thrown back, having difficulty breathing and no pulse!!! This was a huge shock, she seemed to be in perfectly great health. I quickly alerted the air hostess who called for all doctors on board to come help with the resuscitation.

Upon landing we were quickly rushed by ambulance from the airstrip to the hospital.  We were discharged from the hospital 24 hours later.

We boarded the next flight and were finally united with family. Next morning, mum's dizziness and the shortness of breathe started to recur. We rushed her to the emergency.

The doctors did multiple tests to rule out any heart issues. On general medical examination, a lump was found in the left breast. A biopsy was immediately ordered,  revealing an aggressive cancerous tumor; inflammatory breast cancer; a rare form of cancer that grows fast.

As a non Canadian citizen, she does not have the privilege to be covered by the provincial government for medical expenses. We kindly need support to cover related medical expenses including surgery, prescription drugs as well as medical bills for the long term care.

Estimated cost of treatment:-

1) Chemotherapy:- approximated at $8000 per session (3 - 6 sessions may be needed depending on tumor shrinkage): $48,000
2)Surgery:- $25,000 - 40,000 average cost depeniding on complexity of the procedure
3) Breast reconstruction:- $20,000 average cost
4) Prescription drugs:- For 1-5 years
5) Labaratory  tests and blood work (CT scan, biopsies, etc)
6) Doctor consultations

We thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for whatever way you may show your support. If you are unable to donate at this point, please share the page. Every penny counts. Please keep mum in your prayers as we fight this battle.

We shall share weekly updates on her journey.
