Sarah Vina's Fight Against Cancer

Support Sarah as she beats a rare and aggressive form of leukemia, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). We know she can do this! Your contribution to this fund will help support Sarah while she is out of work and her energy is spent on treatment and recovery.

Sarah’s Medical Condition

In 2021, Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer which was treated successfully with surgery and radiation. Earlier this summer, July 2022, the doctors found a spot on Sarah’s lung, which required her to have a portion of her lung removed and spend 4 weeks on medical leave to recover. As the doctors continued monitoring Sarah’s condition, they found that her white blood cell count was continuing to stay elevated and found it necessary to do a bone marrow biopsy in mid-Sept. Based on the results of the biopsy, Sarah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

After the diagnosis on 9/26/2022, it was recommended that treatment start immediately so Sarah was admitted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC and began 7 straight days of chemotherapy shortly after. Sarah has completed her chemotherapy but remains hospitalized as she is now undergoing 3 weeks of blood transfusions. These treatments and procedures are intense - but also offer hope!

As you can imagine, the medical expenses are mounting as she is required to remain hospitalized during her treatment plan. Sarah will be on medical leave for an extended amount of time from her job at WRAL-TV where she has worked for 13 years as a Television Advertising Operations Coordinator.

Financial - Thankfully, Sarah is already in treatment - her new full-time job. Given the loss of income, medical bills and new and increased expenses, we want to help support her financially as she continues treatment and recovery. If you are here, you probably know Sarah! She is not one to ask for help as she is very independent and likes to do everything on her own. She did not ask for this fund to be started but we felt it was necessary to take the lead on her behalf.

Sarah remains strong and has such a positive attitude, which we know will help her in this fight. Our goal is to lighten the financial burden for her so that her focus can remain on getting healthy!!
