If you’re lucky enough to know Sarah, you already know they are one of the best people on this earth, but you may or may not already know that their top surgery* has been scheduled for this December 18th! This is incredibly exciting, a little bit scary, and very expensive: we need your help.
Sarah has wanted this surgery for a long time, and we are so excited that it's finally happening. While the surgery in itself is a pretty big deal, two things make it even bigger: Sarah is absolutely petrified of anything to do with hospitals (Mama Dot can attest to this), and the surgery won’t be covered by OHIP making it very expensive.
There's not a ton we can do about the hospital-a-phobia, but we sure can help lessen the financial burden on our favourite recent grad! Here's an outline of the costs we know so far:
Surgery - $9040
Scar healing gel - $150
Hotel & Travel to Toronto - $600
Netflix Subscription - $10.99
As Sarah's friends, family and loved ones we can join forces and raise half of the cost of the surgery. If helping out Sarah wasn't enough of a motivator, we have put together a little list of donation rewards:
$1 + Subscription to recovery newsletter and personalized thank you email
$25 + Personalized thank you card
$50 + Facetime/Skype during recovery
$100 + Custom cross stitch
$200 + Custom Playlist/Mixtape
$400 + Golf Caddy for a Day // Performance of an Original Song About You
$2500 + Sarah gets your name tattooed on their body (location negotiable)
Any help that you can offer is greatly appreciated. We can do this! If you can’t afford to donate, that’s totally A-OKAY because there’s still lots of ways you can help - send a card, suggest podcast/movie recommendations or stop by for a visit, AND don’t forget the most important one share the heck out of this page!
*Are you a friend or family member of Sarah’s that’s super supportive of this decision, are incredibly happy for them, but also a little confused about this top surgery business and are afraid to ask?
Have no fear - please find below some useful resources for learning about the world of gender identity, gender expression, and top surgery. This list is not, of course, comprehensive or entirely reflective of Sarah’s individual truth, but it's a good place to start.
