Sara Martinez's Med/Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
Some of you may or may not have known Sara Martinez. Well, my girls and I did. She was a CHS 2017 graduate, Falcon band member, eighteen years old and also worked at Olive Garden. She was a breath of fresh air. She was fun-loving and carefree. She was full of laughter. She was a daughter. She was a sister. Above all, she was a beautiful, loving friend to so many. She loved her friends. She loved her family. She made everyone feel special. Sadly, she lost her life on this earth way too soon. On December 30, she fell ill and her family called for an ambulance who rushed her to a nearby hospital. At first the doctors thought that she was suffering from a bad viral infection. As the days progressed, she fell in to a coma. Once the doctors ruled out many illnesses, they finally completed an MRI and were 90% certain that she developed a rare disease, ADEM aka Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, which can be triggered by viral infections, bacterial infections, etc. The disease causes an attack on brain and spinal nerve tissue. Since the heavy medications and corticosteroids were unable to stop her body from attacking itself, Sara lost her battle. Being an educator, mother, and "band mom" to so many over the years I have had the privilege of watching numerous children grow up. I've personally had students develop cancer and watch their fight and win. So to see a family go through this and watch them have to live through something so unthinkable, so devasting...well, let's just say that I could not just sit idly by without trying to help. Who is ever prepared to bury a child? Most of the time, people would answer, "No one." Having to endure this time of grieving, should not be overshadowed by stacks of funeral expenses and medical bills. So if you knew Sara or not, please think about that and consider skipping coffee for the month or even a night out for dinner and a movie. I promise you that all of the proceeds will be given directly to her parents, Felipe and Adaid Martinez.  Also, please say a prayer for her family and multitude of friends. On the day of her departure, which was January 10, her hospital room was jammed full of so many friends, classmates and family members. Everyone was openly sobbing and praying, sharing their stories, or telling their tales with Sara. The heartfelt goodbyes, as we all openly sobbed and said bye to her will forever be embedded in my soul. There was not a dry eye in that room. The sad memory makes my heart ache over what the Martinez family is going through. Not only did my girls and so many others lose a best friend and confidant, but the world lost a precious girl as heaven gained an angel. Thank you so much in advance for giving and sharing her story.
