Bad News Comes in Threes

Sara is a divorced mother of two.  Her past three months have been extremely distressing, yet she still takes great care of her two beautiful children, presides over the PTO at her son’s elementary school in Forsyth County, Georgia, and works part-time at the school.   The story of threes: During the past several months, Sara had to put down the 16-year-old family dog because of kidney failure, lost most of their furniture and belongings due to major flooding in their house and had her back yard destroyed by a huge wind storm.

In early June, after the loss of their dog, she and her children left their home for the weekend.  The day after they left, she received word from a neighbor that water was coming out above and below her garage doors.  She returned home shortly after to find her house destroyed inside.  It was very hard to comprehend at the moment for her, and her children.

A water pipe had failed under the sink in her master bath which resulted in water soaking the second-floor bedrooms and master bath.  This caused the ceiling and walls to fall on the first floor.  Finally, water collected in the basement.  Both the basement and first floor are down to the studs.  It took 47 fans running for about 10 days to dry out her house.  Repair crews just began work to fix her house – nine weeks after the flood.  The family lost furniture, all flooring, all electronics and many personal items.  Although the insurance company is helping with some of the renovation, there was so much more destroyed that to date is unaccounted for.

Insurance is putting her house back together but will cover only half of the estimated cost of 500+ personal and furniture items destroyed.  The family had to collect some clothes, remaining games and toys, some food and move in with friends.  Now they are in a hotel to be closer to schools.

A couple weeks ago, a huge wind storm came through their neighborhood.  Her privacy fence in the back yard and six trees were destroyed.  The trees were so large, one was 31 inches in diameter, that a crane in the front driveway had to lift cut logs over her house to trucks in front.  Her insurance allows for repair of her fence of which over half needs to be replaced and only $1,000 for tree removal.

Our goal for Sara’s family is $30,000 to help with personal items, furniture replacement, yard repairs and fence rebuilding.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
