Santos Family Care
The friends of the Santos family have created this fundraiser. New father Pedro Santos recently suffered a basilar artery stroke after returning home near Boston after helping a close friend move out west. His wife, Sara, acted quickly and rushed him to urgent medical care within an hour of his symptoms presenting. A medical intervention of blood thinners cleared the largest clot but a smaller block remained and could not be reached in surgery. Even with medication and constant care, his pain is unbearable due to swelling and he is in and out of consciousness. Additional procedures over the last three days have been necessary to keep Pedro’s condition stable.
Basilar Artery Stroke is very rare. Only happening to 1% of stroke victims. It’s even rarer in people as young as Pedro. The doctors have been tirelessly searching to find what may have caused this particular stroke but have few cases to use as comparison.
Sara and Pedro have spent the last 10 months together raising their beautiful baby girl, Isabella. Due to Pedro's current condition and the likelihood he will be unable to work for an extended and uncertain period of time, the family's medical and childcare bills will be significant, as will the treatments and therapy necessary to help Pedro on his road to recovery.
